At Legacy Realty of Iowa, we often talk about building something meaningful—a place where agents and clients alike can thrive. But for me, real estate isn’t just a business; it’s a family tradition, rooted in a legacy that stretches back nearly 70 years.

Recently, a dear friend shared something that took me back to the very heart of why I chose real estate. It was a picture of a purchase agreement from 1955, when her parents, Ron and Betty, bought their family home. The agent who helped them find their dream house? Lew Clarkson Real Estate Service—my grandfather’s company. Lew Clarkson, my grandfather, was the agent who helped families in Iowa find not just houses, but homes where life’s most important moments could unfold.

A Family Tradition in Real Estate

Seeing that old agreement stirred something in me. Sixty-eight years later, I had the honor of listing that very home for sale as Ron and Betty moved on to the next chapter of their lives. It was a full-circle moment, one that made me reflect on how deeply real estate is embedded in my family’s story and in the lives of the people we serve.

Ron and Betty’s home wasn’t just a structure with walls and a roof. It was a place where they raised their two daughters, built a pool that became the summer gathering spot for four generations, hosted church groups, and welcomed friends and family to relax and enjoy life together. That home was a vessel for memories, a setting for so many moments that shaped their lives.

The Essence of Real Estate

This is what real estate is all about to me. It’s more than buying and selling properties; it’s about helping people find a place where they can build their lives. A home is where you raise your children, deepen your friendships, and create memories that span generations. Helping families find that special place is an incredible honor—and it’s the foundation on which Legacy Realty is built.

I grew up watching my grandfather connect with people in our community. He wasn’t just selling houses; he was helping families lay the foundation for their futures. That’s the legacy I inherited, and it’s what drives me to this day. With every client I work with, I’m reminded of the stories my grandfather told, the relationships he built, and the way he approached real estate with integrity and care.

Continuing the Legacy at Legacy Realty

When I founded Legacy Realty, I wanted to honor the values my grandfather lived by. Real estate is personal—it’s about helping people find a place where they can grow, dream, and make memories. At Legacy Realty, we strive to continue that tradition, putting relationships first and ensuring that every agent, every client, and every home has a story that’s respected and cherished.

As I listed Ron and Betty’s home, I felt a deep sense of gratitude. I wasn’t just closing a chapter; I was continuing the legacy that started with my grandfather all those years ago. Helping families through these transitions is why I got into real estate, and it’s what keeps me passionate about this industry.

A Legacy of Care and Community

Legacy Realty is built on more than just business principles. It’s built on a belief in people, in homes, and in the communities we help shape. Just as my grandfather did decades ago, I’m committed to helping our clients find not just a house, but a home—a place where they can make their own memories, create traditions, and build their futures.

Thank you for being a part of this journey. As we move forward, we’re not just building a real estate company. We’re building a legacy, one home at a time.
